As a Star Trek aficionado, I watched as the crew of the Enterprise fought against the Borg, a species that forcefully assimilated other cultures into their own humanoid/machine hybrid species. “We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.” Overpowering force and technology made the Borg virtually invulnerable. While the Borg forcibly assimilated, America has welcomed many people from different cultures to add value to our community. Most immigrants have done just that.

As this nation grew in the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries, immigrants were necessary to fuel the engine that was America. Immigrants entered through Ellis Island in New York, where they were processed, issued identification, had to demonstrate financial stability, pass a criminal history test, and were vetted for any infectious diseases. Those immigrants that passed admission tended to reside together in close knit communities, maintaining many of their customs. Those immigrants also felt a strong bond with their adopted country and made it imperative that they learn, speak, and write in the native language, English.

Fast forward to today and many of these “new breed” of immigrants have no desire to assimilate into American culture and society. Bi-lingualism has eliminated any incentive for Spanish-speaking immigrants to learn English. Enclaves of immigrants, particularly the Muslim community, refuse to speak English and are hostile to outsiders. These “outsiders” are the citizens of the nation that welcomed them in the first place! Democrat run cities and states acquiesce to these groups, allowing them to create their own government within their community that rejects the rule of law and replaces it with Sharia law.

Corrupt Somali Muslims in Minnesota and other states stand accused of running elaborate welfare and covid funding fraud schemes, with losses that reach into the $Billions. Over 80% of Somali immigrants collect some form of welfare, even after ten years of residency in the US. Some of that money is sent back to Somalia, accounting for over 10% of Somalia’s annual budget. More of those funds are redirected to Al-Shabaab, a Somali terrorist organization, making the Minnesota taxpayer their single largest funding source. Immigrants that cheat, lie, and steal from their benefactors forfeit any right to live in a civilized society.

Immigration law requires all immigrants to lawfully enter through a port of entry, comply with US immigration laws, follow all procedures necessary to apply for a visa, have the ability to be lawfully employed, and are not eligible for welfare benefits. Today, you can throw those rules out the nearest window. On the very day Joe Biden took office in 2021, the floodgates were opened and millions of illegal immigrants began to flood into the nation from our southern border. Over the next four years immigration officers were overwhelmed by the onslaught of 5-10000 illegal immigrants daily. Immigration officers became babysitters and paper pushers, processing the illegal immigrants that were then transported throughout our nation without proper vetting or identification. Tens of thousands of unaccompanied immigrant children remain unaccounted for to this day. This was an intentional and deliberate act on the part of the Biden administration.

The left acts with deference to any “oppressed” or “victim” class. All immigrants, that are not white, are considered “protected” classes. Assimilation is tacitly discouraged by democrat leaders. Immigrants have no incentive, whatsoever, to become part of the American community. Anyone asserting that immigrants should assimilate is met with derision from the left with accusations of racism and white supremacy. That is likely why Tim Walz’s administration in Minnesota ignored the corruption in the Somali Muslim community even after numerous whistleblowers brought the fraud to light. Better to be politically correct than confront criminality, I guess. So, in response, Walz now wants to invite even more Somalis to Minnesota. Good luck with that!

The Quran views non-believers as infidels, and if infidels fail to convert, all bets are off. Apparently, Islam teaches that non-believers are, somehow, less than human and are to be despised. Jesus said the second most important commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. Apparently, the Quran disagrees. Those who would pervert the freedoms afforded in this society and use them against the very people who welcome them, are ingrates, unworthy of the privilege of living in America. Those who support them are simply useful idiots. The true motives of Islamists have never been more apparent and they must be rejected.

Islamism has no place in the western world. American values conflict with the tenets of Islam. Christian values conflict with Islam. Islamic theology devalues anyone who is a non-believer. Islam should and must be rejected. But those trapped within Islam are still our neighbors, beguiled by a false religion. They are lost without Jesus Christ. We are called to plant the seeds of faith, by our actions and words so that the Holy Spirit can nurture those seeds and lead them to God. We can reject Islamism without rejecting those who practice Islam. While they are not yet our brothers and sisters, they are our neighbors, lost without Jesus.

We cannot, of our own volition, bring the lost to Him. But with our actions we can set examples for the lost to see. We do not, by exercising our imperfect earthly tolerance and acceptance, acquiesce that those lost in false religions as our brothers and sisters. Those who do not belong to the fellowship of believers remain our neighbors, who we are to love as ourselves. We should not engage in futile arguments. When our neighbors are being led astray, we need to gently instruct with Christian love. Customs antithetical to societal values must be rejected. Assimilation is necessary to become a part of the community. Adherence to societal norms may be what is necessary to start immigrants on a path that leads to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

ELCA Pastor Response

This ELCA pastor has overdosed on the Koolaid. 

Unwitting Pawns was also published as a Guest Opinion piece in the West Bend Daily News on February 11th, 2023. Pastor Schoob's critique of the article says it all. The ELCA is awash in heresy and cares little about preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world in order to bring the lost to Him. Please pray for Schoob and especially for his congregation. If his sermons mirror his stated beliefs, his flock is not being fed the bread of life.

Tolerance more than just a phrase

Can’t paint Christians with wide brush

I am responding to Don Kriefall’s article “Unwitting Pawns,” printed in your paper. To paraphrase words from Luke Skywalker in a recent “Star Wars” film, “Almost every word in that article is wrong.” The only sentiment of his that I can agree with is that we should have a more tolerant society. Yet the article itself seems to be the poster child for intolerance and misinformation.

Where is it wrong?

The idea of accepted social norms varies depending on perspective. I and many others find the author’s idea of social norms narrow, abusive, and founded on a desire to keep the white, heterosexual male as the ideal.

He is wrong that there is a common understanding among Christians of what constitutes sexual deviance. My church is open and receiving of those in the LGBTQIA+ communities.

He is wrong that all Christians hold a common understanding of biblical material. There are many passages that Christians understand in different ways. Many Christians understand certain passages as being grounded in a different culture and time period. New understandings of our humanity lead us to examine passages in a different light of those understandings. You cannot use one interpretive approach as normative and call it “Christian.”

Most of the society does not hold that people must be defined by the binary male and female. Most also are open to recognition of gay and lesbian committed relationships. A majority of Americans embrace an idea of acceptance toward the LGBTQIA+ community. Almost all the experts on human behavior recognize a fluidity to gender identity.

LGBTQIA+ identity is not in any way connected with the lack of a mother or father.

LGBTQIA+ identities are not developed because of a secret plot by educators. Educators instead teach information to help young people understand themselves and others.

The understanding of systemic racism does not arise from a left-wing plot. The understanding of systemic racism arises out of a careful study of history and a sensitivity to the cries of communities of color. Parents are always free to remove a student from a history class if they do not accept the information and move their child to another school that is less rigorous in its analysis.

In the same vein, Black Lives Matter does not stand in opposition to the idea of All Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter affirms that all lives matter, but is honest about the mistreatment of blacks and speaks for those whose voices are not heard. The members of Black Lives Matter remind us all that black lives do matter as much as white lives. If we are all of one race as asserted in the article then there should be justice offered equally to all. Race is a social construct, (another correct assertion in the article) and continues to be used to promote injustice by a white-dominated society each and every day. The idea of Christian nationalism that the article espouses is not consistent with the constitutional understanding of the nation or the understanding of Jesus. Jesus refused a crown and called his followers to the law of love before any law or nation.

Finally, the article says that the left is always using the tactics of bullying, manipulation, and misinformation to try to drive people to their point of view. I would ask the author to follow his own advice: “We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and recognize who we really are.”

Unity

 Joe McCarthy, a Wisconsin Senator who served from 1947 until he died in 1957, is most famously known for fostering the fear of being accused of being a communist. McCarthy, a Republican, made wild claims that communists had infiltrated our society and were hiding in plain sight. He opined that these alleged communists were in place to destroy our nation. Never mind that none of his accusations had any factual basis, but that any allegation of being a communist sympathizer ended many careers. The term “Blacklisted” originated with his wild and unsubstantiated claims. History repeats itself as the democrat/socialist/left hurls their accusations of “white supremacy” and “the radicalized right” at anyone that challenges their desired status quo. Our military is to “stand down” in order to investigate and root out any extremism within its’ ranks. Never mind that there is no valid intelligence that this actually exists, they will ferret out this danger to our democracy and eliminate it.

This systematic transformation that has led “right wing extremism” to be elevated as the greatest threat to our democracy began in earnest when FBI director Christopher Wray stated that Antifa was not the problem, but that the rise of “white supremacy” merited the most scrutiny. Since then there has been a concerted effort to highlight conservatism as threatening our societal norms. CNN anchor Don Lemon opined that he believes that the white male is the most dangerous threat to our country. As with McCarthy’s assertions that communist sympathizers were a threat to our democracy in the 50’s, these words also ring hollow. Granted there are organizations that are radical right and racist, but those numbers are dwarfed by left wing radical groups such as Antifa and BLM. Antifa and BLM bring with them many true believers or more accurately described as “useful idiots”, that engage in mob behavior and actually participate in criminal acts, with the belief that they are serving a noble cause.

A newly elected congressman that has made comments in the past deemed inappropriate, and democrats vote to remove her from all committee assignments. Ilhan Omar, AOC, Rashida Talib, Ayanna Pressley and Maxine Watters make inappropriate statements and transfer campaign contributions to family members and you can cue the crickets. The mainstream media, in their effort to hasten political upheaval and to support any and all leftist desires, goes absolutely overboard in their efforts to uplift the left while trampling on all things conservative. The effort to drive their chosen narrative rather than report factual news, goes against any and all journalistic standards. This double standard is apparent and appalling. For example, the first sentence from an article published in The Hill on February 6, 2021, “The first weeks of President Biden's administration have been a striking contrast with the chaos and turmoil of the Trump administration, bringing a sense of normality back to the White House and government.” So much for fair and balanced news reporting.

Disagree with the left on immigration, and you are racist. Challenge their unhinged desire to rid the planet of fossil fuels, and you are a science denier. Follow the science in the fight against COVID-19, and you’ll be censured in social media and labeled as a heretic by the mainstream media. Try to point out that there are differences between the genders and you’re homophobic, transphobic or just plain too stupid to understand that biological sex is in the eye of the beholder and is a fluid as water. Question the voting irregularities reported in the 2020 Presidential election, and you’ll be de-platformed, threatened with the loss of position or simply be cancelled by those who look to virtue signal so as not to upset the mob. And the mainstream media amplifies this vitriol emanating from the left, reporting with supportive nods, facial expressions and head shaking at any attempts by conservatives to uphold the rule of law.

The Overton Window is an accepted theory that political change is driven by what the public is willing to consider and accept at that time. Usually, change is incremental, but what we have seen recently is a pendulum swing that is so steep and sharp that that pendulum may well be broken, never again to swing back toward conservatism and sanity. What was once was unthinkable has evolved into policy far too easily and far too quickly. We have an ever compliant news media promoting any and all things “progressive” while consistently decrying conservative values as outdated and obsolete. This type of reporting has altered public perception, not only to support changes in public policy, but promotes distrust of accepted societal norms. The time has come to wake up and realize exactly what drives the left, their unbridled ambition to acquire and maintain power. Power over you! Anything or anyone conservative stands in the way of that goal. Make no bones about it, the left not only wants to cancel you, they want to eliminate your faith, take away your ability to protect yourself and your family and erase you and your ilk from history in their unrelenting push to fundamentally transform this nation. Question is, what are you going to do about it?
